My first post of 2015- woohoo! clearly, much of the first 2015 posts will still be from 2014…as I had a wonderful year with so many wonderful sessions– even though I am behind– I want to still get many of them up! So keep reading!
So….2015. Alright– here we come!! I am totally STOKED for this year. There are a lot of thoughts and emotions running through me this year– and as ever– many ideas. I guess the first thing hits you when you think of the “new year”, is reflection. However, I am not only reflecting on 2014. The last 4 years of my life have been a total whirlwind and totally life-changing. Becoming a mother, growing personally, starting and procuring a thriving business, balancing all the life has thrown at me and my family in that time…I often feel like I am overwhelmed with emotion….I call it the “movie moment”…when you just sit back and fell like you’re watching a scene from a perfect movie, and you realize it’s your life….and the tears fall. I am so lucky to have all that I have– and to have such amazing clients and friends– and to be able to do this amazing job for a living…..my passion for a living. No matter where the future takes me, I have so many wonderful people in my life who have supported me and continue to support me….and if you are reading this…you are included in that. So Thank you.
Next sentiment after reflection seems to be goal-making. Sheesh…..if I had a nickel for everytime I made a list, or set a goal……well…..I’d have I have a lot of nickels….but the point is that I am in full-goal-making-mode. I’m so excited to continue to grow and share Jenae Lopez Photography with the world…and it’s setting up to be a stellar year! So woohoo! In true spirit of an entrepreneur though….I have some other exciting things brewing in the back of my noggin’ that are getting me pretty excited! I can’t wait to share with everyone! Not sure if 2015 is the year for that…but in the future!
my rambles for 2015…..
It is important to have goals…and have drive, and strive to be better….lord knows you can’t beat that out of me (it’s a blessing and a curse my friends)- but one thing that I have learned the hard way in the last year, is how to just “be”. Well, I can’t say I’ve fully learned that, but I’m getting there. There is a fine line between being a hard worker and being obsessed….and I often seem to fall into the latter with photography. In order to run a successful business as an artist….I do believe you have to be a little nuts/obsessed! (sorry to all my photog friends….but you know it’s true.) So, I’ve come to accept that, but I am now seeing the line and learning to keep things in line. What am I getting at? Well, I have a absolutely amazing and perfect husband and two little boys…who are my everything. I wrestled with a lot of guilt and frustration in recent years having to balance my business and passion, with wanting to give everything I possibly could to my family. To be honest….you can’t do both. You can’t be obsessed with two things and have it work out. Sometimes there’s nothing like life experience to slap you in the face and teach you what you never would’ve known otherwise…so for that I am thankful. So, in the last few months, I have come to terms with a lot of my goals and drive and passion, and how I am going to be able to have that co-exist with my other passion– my family/life. We are going to do it folks!! It’s amazing how a simple mindset (and a boat load of guilt, life lessons, and re-direction) can put you at ease. I am so happy to feel that I am truly learning to balance my life, and to just “be”…and accept that I can be a successful photographer, and the mom and wife and friend I want to be as well. Setting realistic expectations for myself, and doing what feels right for me, is the new mindset for the year (and life…)!
Every year I mention that I am going to make this blog more about my personal thoughts with the photo sessions I do, and post photos that I love and have meaning to me…..and yet, every year I just end up posting something, for lack of better words, “for the masses”. I absolutely love my clients (friends;), and I love that I have a place to re-cap their babies, weddings, and other sweet moments that I get to be a part of…..but I’d be lying if I said that sometimes just post what I think I should post. I know I am breaking some cardinal sin by talking about this…but there it is. It’s time to do things that really mean something. I preach to my all my current and future clients about shooting moments that mean something….so I need to live my mantra on my blog here too.
Being genuine and authentic and unique….that is what will reside. So, from here on out, I am organizing my blog posts based on my feelings….and what I loved about a session. Maybe it’s not the whole story, or maybe it’s not the clients favorite images, but this is my journal….so you get me. I truly hope that you enjoy my 2015 posts, and all that is to come! I am stoked that you are on board– and for your support!
So, a THANK YOU for 2014, and a THANKS IN ADVANCE for your continued support!!!
Ok, sorry Kari and Marvin….your post got hi-jacked by my rambles! Speaking of being excited….I am so stoked to do these two crazy kids wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch in the Spring!!! I am smitten with these two– we had such a fun time at their session! I didn’t post many from the “after-session”– but we went out for tacos and Margaritas at Pinche Tacos (bc that is where their first date was!), and it was so fun!! I love when I get to just become a friend, and form relationships with my clients….there is nothing better than really connecting and just enjoying life with some new peeps!
We did their session at Red Rocks and City Park….right at the end of fall. We almost cancelled due to weather (snow was off and on), because they really wanted pretty fall colors and sunshine– but we stayed the course, and got some awesome pics! What do ya know too? The sun came out for a few minutes at the end! Score!
Congrats you two– can’t wait for the big day– it’s going to be an awesome family/friend filled party that ends with a marriage! 😉
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
